Simple COM Port Emulation USB driver version 1.8.6

[Part #:  USB_COMM_EMUL_186]

Contents

Description

Thank you for selecting Motorola as your mobility solution tool provider.

Simple COM Port Emulation is one of the USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface modes supported by Symbol scanner devices. In this mode, a Symbol scanner device connected to a PC via USB cable behaves as if the device is connected via a COM port. This driver creates a virtual COM port in the PC corresponding to the device attached through USB.

Advantages

Application developer can use Serial APIs to write custom application to interface with the scanner connected via USB and read the scanned data. Existing applications meant for serial attached scanners can work with the device connected through USB with little or no modifications and easily take advantage of the speed and ease-of-use of USB.

For the latest software updates, go to the Support Central web site and select Software Downloads.

Thank you,

The Motorola Enterprise Mobility Software Development Team

Changes from 1.7 to 1.8.3:

1.    WHQL certified drivers

2.    Option to change port number using 'Advanced Setting' of 'Port Properties' in system 'Device Manager' is supported in Windows 2000 and XP.

3.    Bug fixes in Windows 98 driver

Changes from 1.6 to 1.7:

1.    Fixed compatibility issues with Windows XP SP2.

2.    Virtual COM port number assignment behavior has changed in v1.6: Device will be assigned the same virtual COM port the next time the device is plugged into the system or after a restart. Behavior in pervious versions was to assign a new port if the previous port used by the device is taken up by another scanner or some other resource in the PC.

3.    Option to change port number using 'Advanced Setting' of 'Port Properties' in system 'Device Manager' is not supported, and hence disabled in this version.

Changes from 1.5 to 1.6:

1.    Virtual COM port was not removed if device is removed with an application opening a handle to the device in v1.5. This behavior has changed in v1.6. Now, the virtual COM port will be created when device is plugged in and removed when the device is detached, irrespective of its usage by application.

2.    Virtual COM port will be created under HID Class instead of PORTS class. This does not affect the functionality of the device, and it will be visible as serial device from legacy applications. The device will be enumerated under HID devices instead of Port devices in Device Manager.

Changes from 1.4 to 1.5:

1.     Fixed issue in handling IOCTL_SERIAL_PURGE for RxQueue.
